D-I-Y Facial Hair Removal

You wouldn’t use a knife to stir your coffee or play padel with a golf club. In these situations, common sense prevails, and you use the right equipment for the task. The same can be said when removing facial hair at home.

We are all born with facial hair, which is generally non-problematic and can be easily overlooked. That said, our genes, hormones, age, and certain medical conditions can be responsible for creating a situation whereby the length or darkness of our facial hair can become problematic. Unwanted facial hair can leave us feeling self-conscious and seeking a solution. Essentially, there are three options: leave it, disguise it, or remove it.

Assuming the first option isn’t an option, you have a choice. Whichever choice you make, ensure you have the right tools for the job and opt for products specifically engineered or formulated for use on the face. DIY facial hair removal is very easily doable and worth consideration. That said, facial skin is far more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body and warrants extra special TLC. And always remember, Rule # 1: No Shaving!!

Disguising or camouflaging facial hair is viable if it is fine, short, and reasonably sparse. In this instance, using good-quality cream bleach like Mandy’s Sensitive Cream Bleach is best. Cream Bleach is safe, painless, and easy to use. It lightens unwanted dark hair to tone in with your natural skin colour.

When it comes to removing facial hair yourself, you have several options, each with advantages and disadvantages. So, ultimately, see what best suits your comfort, skills, inclination, and budget requirements and proceed from there. Go forth and conquer those hairy critters, and always remember Rule # 1: No Shaving!!

 Threading:

Pros: It provides excellent shaping if required, works well on small and larger areas, and offers long-lasting results. No chemicals are involved, so there is little chance of an allergic skin reaction, but redness and irritation can occur as hair is pulled out from the roots.

The cons: Mastering it yourself requires a fair amount of practice and skill. Sensitivity can be an issue. No, seriously!

 Tweezing:

Pros: It’s great for lonesome, long stragglers and when brows need window dressing. It has long-lasting results and no chemicals involved, so there is little chance of an allergic skin reaction. However, redness and irritation can occur as hair is pulled out from the roots.

Cons: Tweezing requires good quality, exclusive-use equipment and reasonable skill, especially when shaping brows. It is not great for larger areas, and sensitivity can be an issue.

 Waxing or Wax Strips:

Pros: Waxing is an effective form of hair removal. It works well in smaller and larger areas and offers long-lasting results. A great bonus is that repeated waxing yields softer, sparser regrowth.

Cons: It takes some skill to master doing it yourself, especially when shaping brows. Sensitivity can be an issue. There is a low risk of skin reacting to wax formulation, but it can react badly to poor waxing technique.

 Depilatory Creams and Lotions:

Pros: It is painless, simple, and easy to use; no skill is required. It works well on both small and larger areas. NB! A patch test before use is essential to determine skin compatibility.

Cons: Although modern, low-irritant formulations have made massive strides, there is a risk of skin reaction to chemicals. We don’t advocate using depilatory lotions and creams around the eyes or brows. The results are not as long-lasting as when hair is removed from the root.

 Epilators:

Pros: These work well in small and larger areas and offer long-lasting results. No chemicals are involved, so there is little chance of skin irritation.

Cons: The equipment is expensive and cannot be used around the eyes or brows. Sensitivity is almost guaranteed to be an issue!
